Should I drop Buchholz for Escobar?
I know Escobar might miss the first month, but he's so highly rated in Yahoo ranks. Will Bucholz start right away and continue to start games? It's not a keeper league, and I already dropped my bench batters for additional SP. After the season is over, who would have been a better fantasy pitcher this year: Clay Bucholz or Kelvim Escobar?
Wow, that's a good question. Escobar is clearly the more proven, and probably why he gets the higher rank. Buchholz is now battling Colon for the last spot in the BoSox rotation, and Escobar has the sore shoulder, so they both come with decent sized question marks.
I think I would go with Escobar for the simple fact that when he's healthy, he's guaranteed a rotation spot. And because Buchholz still has much to prove including durability, his innings will be capped at some point even if he wins the 5th spot in Boston.
Looking at some projections for the two, Buchholz looks to clock in at about 10 wins, with 120+ K's and an era around 4.00 in 130 innings or so (definitely no more than 150)
Escobar should be somewhere in the 12 win, 150 K, 4.00 range, with a few more innings despite the shoulder (unless it gets worse)
