Don't you think it would be interesting if...?
The Food Network Channel had a show where chef contestants have to create signature dishes...veg style?
Like, for instance, a signature burger made of veggie protein or soy ground "beef", and they're not allowed to use pre-seasoned products (a.k.a. Boca beef or sausage crumbles, etc.) which would make it much harder because you can't just season tofu like you would chicken--it would be too strong since tofu soaks up the seasoning much more than chicken and has little natural flavor of its own.
Of course, the dishes would have to pass the judgment of vegetarians, vegans, and omnivores alike because, well, let's face it--many veg'ns do eventually learn to adapt their taste to dishes that are /almost/ as good as the original but not really up to par (guilty as charged).
I think it would be an interesting twist, kind of like Ultimate Chef: Veg'n Style. And all us veggie foodies who like to watch the Food Network can also get a few tips and tricks from the show as well.
I'm an omnivore, but that sounds like a good idea to me! I would definitely watch it.
I enjoy vegan cooking because it challenges me to be flexible in the kitchen- I'll probably eventually make the switch to Vegan but not until I have a good selection of recipes that I'm satisfied with.
Actually though, I think rather than limiting it to JUST vegan cooking, maybe they should have a show that focuses on cooking for speciality diets- say an episode on vegan, one on gluten free, a couple on religious diets.....
It would teach alternatives to conventional ingredients for common dishes!
