Do I need to have an new outlet installed for my electric oven?
I have severe food allergies, and want to build a small second kitchen into my house for my family to cook their meals containing eggs or cheese. I was wondering if we could use the outlet for our clothes dryer (usually hang dry anyway) for an oven, or if we would have to have another outlet added for it? Also, is an overhead range difficult to install? What sort of cost are we looking at for this? We are in Canada.
Cookers require a separate circuit, not just an outlet because they draw so much power. So you need to factor in an assessment of your existing electrical service and at the minimum the installation of a new circuit (and all ancillary building works).
You may require a new consumer distribution board to accommodate an additional circuit so your costs may increase exponentially.
