It was my mother's food mill and I have to clear the rust from it when I pull it out from the depths of the cupboard to make applesauce every year. Once I start cranking though - the center ring starts leaking black stuff. I have pulled the entire thing apart and cleaned it and it still continues to leak what seems like oil. I'm sure something is combining with the apple but it's kinda scary. I obviously don't want it in my food so I end up putting a little cup underneath the area to catch any drips. I'm about to break down and buy a new food mill but most of the reviews on the internet say "nothing is as good as my old Foley food mill" so I would rather not waste the money. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
