Candy thermometer HELLLP!
Okay. I am making s'mores cupcakes (amazing recipe.) and found that I have no marshmallow fluff so I would have to make it from scratch. The problem is, I just realized I don't have a candy thermometer!!! What should I do? I have this digital thermometer but it is for meat - it's got a tiny clock face (looks just like a digital clock - actually, it is one as well as a timer.) (handy gadget to have in the kitchen...) ANYWAY it has a cord that plugs into the side attached to a spear meter for the meat.... could I use that as a candy thermometer, in theory? I have the temperature it needs to be and everything....
Help would be wonderful, I have a bake sale TONITE!!!
I'd love to run out and buy fluff but my schedule doesn't allow that along with the fact that I don't have my license yet. bummer.
Yes. You can use the meat thermometer. Most modern thermometers have a HUGE temperature range. Candy thermometers are a thing of the past in the food service industry. I haven't used one in years. The only problem is you can't clip them to the side of the sauce pan like you could with a candy thermometer. However, just test the temp often. It should work out just fine.
