It's unheard of in many parts of the world (I know Americans are addicted to ice water) and no one suffers repercussions from consuming it. Here, I've heard people blame all kinds of ailments on it (disregarding the fact that colds/communicable diseases are caused by pathogens, not cold water.)

I hadn't heard about it in other middle eastern countries. Where did this fear come from?
